Overview
Minimum 17 credits. All courses listed for the certificate may be applied to the AAS degree in Criminal Justice and Public Safety.
The certificate prepares students for entry level technical work in a correctional setting. Support positions may include clerical type functions, processing and disposition of inmate records, participating in booking and releasing of inmates, and monitoring safety and security of staff, inmates, and visitors.
Direct supervision of inmates is reserved to correctional officers.
Learning Outcomes
- Assist in managing initial custody of adults and juveniles.
- Demonstrate professional integrity by applying ethical principles to criminal justice policies, practices, and evaluation of their implications.
