MCH 135 Basic Measuring Tools and Layout
Covers use and applications associated with basic measuring tools including: the machinist's scale, dividers, telescoping gage, combination square, hermaphrodite caliper, surface gage, and surface finish gage. Introduces the proper techniques and applications of the basic transfer measurement and comparison tools in measuring holes accurately, scribing parallel lines, finding the center of round stock, determining the factors which contribute to the quality of surface finish, and practice in identifying surface finishes. Covers instruction and practice in cutting, filing, layout, scribing, use of gage blocks, and utilizing the height gage to accurately layout lines, angles and the location of part features. Introduces the proper use and applications of the hacksaw, scribe, dividers, prick punch, ballpeen hammer, combination square set, and height gage to produce the accurate layout of part features.
